What’s your gift for God this Christmas?

I was talking to my family the other night and the topic of “Gifts” came up in our conversation. My sister said that she had something specific to ask God this Christmas. Then, it struck me. Isn’t it usually the birthday boy/girl that is showered with gifts? All these days, I’ve been asking God for gifts. I think it was about time I changed that.

This Christmas I am doing something very different. I am giving God a gift that he’d like for his birthday. Some of you might be thinking what in the whole world would you give someone who has everything, owns everything and is everything. Quite true!

But you see, if you take time and think about it…God gave us back some ownership rights so we don’t become like robots that simply execute commands from its creator. We know one clear right we all have – our will/ability to choose between good and evil.

So this Christmas, I promised to love him even more and obey his commands. I promised to spend even more time in His presence. I’m sure he is very happy with my gift.

What’s your gift for Jesus this Christmas? After all, he has come to lay down his life for you… so you may have life and life more abundant – spiritually and literally.

Idols = Devil

“The idols of the nations are silver and gold, made by the hands of men. They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but they cannot see; they have ears, but cannot hear, nor is there breath in their mouths. Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them”. (Psalms 135:15-18)

We often take this verse literally and tell ourselves that we are not worshipping any idols and its just some of those religions that this verse is referring to. You couldn’t have been more wrong. The verse here is not just referring to idols that we see in other religions but more so the idols we create for ourselves in this world.

Everywhere you see, there are technological advances that seek more and more of our time. We invent new technologies and discover better ways of doing things to increase our quality of life. The irony is, it seems to take up more time than our traditional way of doing things. In the days of Abraham, I’m sure they had plenty of time to sit down, relax and reflect on things of God. And I’m sure God was very happy with that.

In those days, they didn’t have twitter to chirp about every single moment of their life, update their facebook account on what they’re up to, or post photos on Instagram to let everyone know what they’ve been doing in that moment of time.

I might have gone off-topic here but my point is that we seem to build our own invisible idol in this day and age. These idols are sort of like the “mini” devils. They are made by our hands (man-made). These idols have mouths, but cannot speak. Yet, they make us speak things that are false, regrettable, irreversible and destructive (Proverbs 21:23).

They have eyes but cannot see. Yet, they make us see things that are lustful, evil, unrighteous and wicked. They have ears but cannot see. Yet, they make us hear things full of envy, deceit, and hatred. They don’t have breath in their mouths. Yet, they make us feel lively and full of life strongly hindering the truth that everlasting and fulfilling life is given only by Jesus Christ alone (John 10:10).

So its rightful to say, idols are from the father of lies (John: 8:44) and accuser of the brethren (Revelation 12:10). Break those idols, know the truth and the truth will set you free (John 8:32).

Under Attack by David Wilkerson

When you are under attack from the enemy’s spirit of discouragement, you will not feel like praying. But you still must go to the secret place and be in Jesus’ presence. Do not worry about trying to pray your way out of despair. This is the time for God’s Spirit to go to work in you to lift you out of the pit.

When you go to the Lord, be honest with Him about how weak and helpless you feel. Let Him know, “Jesus, I’m dry. I have no strength left. If I’m ever going to get out of this depression, You are going to have to make it happen.”

In such low times, the Lord is very patient with us. He does not expect us to exert some intense, fervent effort in prayer. He knows our condition, and He sympathizes with us. Just sit in His presence and trust His Spirit to do in you what He was sent to do. It doesn’t matter how cast down you are, He will never forsake you!

We have the notion that every time we fail the Lord, the Holy Spirit flits away like a bird because He is grieved. But how could God’s Spirit abandon me when I need Him most? If He leaves me whenever I fail and fall deep into discouragement, how can He be my Comforter?

Jesus promised us, “I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever . . . I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you” (John 14:16, 18). When the devil’s heavy spirit of discouragement settles over your life, you may be so distraught you cannot even whisper a prayer. But even so, you can talk to Jesus in your spirit. Just tell Him softly, “Lord, help me. This attack is too much for me. I can’t do anything but sit here in faith. I am trusting your Spirit to drive it out of me.”
